What are the steps for baby registery, where can we register, and when do we start?

admin on Aug-28-2010

So first baby, and of course baby shower. I tried going to The Children’s Place and asking they do baby registry but they don’t. Also to do the whole registry thing do we have to pay for anything? We know nothing about baby showers, and baby registry. So a step by step advice would be great. Like when we should do it and how we should do it.thanks!

Oooh I love this stuff! I just threw my little sis a baby shower for her first baby and have walkes her through the whole process. So, you should start your registry sometime after the 5and a half month pregnancy mark. the three best places to go( and i recommend registering at all three, I’ll tell ya why below) first and most important go to Babys R Us because they have the most expansive selection, pretty much anything you can think of go to the front desk and they will walk you through the process of how to do it, give you some free samples, shower invites, and little cards that you put in the invites to tell guests where you are registered. Register for all the things you could need here except for clothes(styles are always changing and they may not be in stock by the time your guests shop, also you could notate in the registry that "clothes and gift cards are welcome") and also i would not register for any items like big furniture cuz it is way pricier than the other two places that i’ll mention. second is target, they usually have a nice baby selection with some cute stylish items at good prices, here register for everything you don’t mind extra of and the things you might not have cared for or couldn’t find at Babys R Us. scan(they will give you handheld scanners at all these places to scan and register your items) a cute bedding set with all the coordinates, diapers in numerous sizes(not too many newborn cuz you’ll end up with too many too small diapers that your baby won’t be in long)lots of size1,2,3’s,and wipes(at all 3 places add diapers and wipes cuz you cannot have too many). bottles, onsies, socks, packaged basic clothes like tshirts, ect. It doesnt matter if you have some duplicate items at all three places because since you’re registered its very easy to return and trade for things you may not have received at your shower. Here or the next place is where you want to check out the furniture selection(carseat/carrier,highchair,bassinette,changing table, swing, bouncy seat, crib, dresser, the big carseat for after your baby outgrows the carrier(unless you pick one newborn to like 50lbs),stroller(the 3 in one with the stroller, carseat, and carseat base that all attaches together is a nice bargain),crib mattress, bathtub, ect)anything you think you might need and want to register for do so at one of the last two places.pick your theme or the styles you like.I personally put all my big stuff at one place after i found the theme i liked. So thelast place to register is Walmart. they have a great selection, wonderful prices for your guests and you are bound to get lots of items that you need and like off that registry. Here just go for it and put everything you could think of needing on there. Okay so to recap: Babys R us first, everything you might need, especially things that are not so common, no big furniture, no clothes. than go to target and pick everything you couldn’t find or did’nt care for at BabysRUs.double some things that you need lots of or don’t mind extras of,especially if you love a theme there.def, do diapers and wipes at all 3 places & things like baby detergent, baby laundry stain spray, lotion, ect. if you like furniture or big baby items there go for it.third go to walmart, go for broke, duplicate things off the other registries and pick any special items you like. Remember that these are essentially wish lists and only suggestions for people and it lets them know what you like and need. Have fun with it and pretend that if money were no object all the things you would pick and want for your baby. who cares how much you have on your registries because as i said they are merely ideas and it gives people lots to choose from. print copies of each registry as you go and open them because you can refer to them after your shower for items you may have liked but didn’t receive and you can use your gift cards if you get some to go get the items yourself.so when you are all done take the little card from BabysRUs that says you are registered there and before you give them to the hosts or whomever does your invites write "also registered at Target and Walmart" on each little card. remember at each place you can add notes at the bottom so when people print them out they’ll see things like"it’s a girl/boy" ,"gift cards and clothes welcome", "theme of winnie the pooh(ect.)’, "nursery colors in ____ & _____" .Right after the shower inventory all your gifts and take back the items you don’t want or wish to trade or got too many of(my sis got three baby tubs even though she only registered for one at one place!it’s bound to happen!)andspend any gift cards on things you still need. So i hope i helped. you asked for step by step and i tried to be detailed for you(: Good luck to you and your sweet baby to be.

when using baby jars in a recipe instead of grated veggies is the conversion equal?

admin on Jul-30-2010

I am making a recipe that calls for grated squash and instead i am using baby jars of squash. Is the conversion equal? If the recipe calls for 3 cups grated squash can i use 3 cups of baby jar squash?
Marinne- I substituted 3 little jars for 3 cups of grated and it came out great!! Sorry- it worked!

Grated squash and baby food (pureed) squash are totally different things. Grated squash will be raw before being added to your ingredients, baby food has been cooked. 3 cups of grated squash is not the same as 3 cups of cooked jarred squash. If you are planning to use this in a baked recipe you will not have a successful outcome.

Baby Colic – How To Comfort An Infant In Pain

admin on Jul-20-2010

When a child is born the colon can begin to react to certain enzymes in the system and cause a lot of pain to the infant. Now this reaction can start within a matter of hours or even days and last until the baby is about 8 months old.

Baby colic is a painful condition and parents are helpless when it does attack. During a colic attack an infant will cry incessantly and even scream at times with the pain. Doctors are not certain what causes colic pains and are unsure of how to treat it. Thankfully the colic attacks are not long lasting and too frequent.

Medical experts have studied the condition and are able to pinpoint the causes of the pain. They are of the opinion that bottle fed infants are more prone to colic pains than breast fed babies are. This is, however, not a rule of thumb as breast fed babies have also been known to develop colic pains.

Baby colic can appear without a warning causing the baby to cry out in pain and then it will just disappear almost as soon as it appeared. The best treatment for baby colic is believed to be gripe water. Mothers can also hold the baby upright to her body to relieve the infant from the pain to an extent. It is believed that the soothing warmth from the mother’s body soothes the infant’s abdomen where the pain is concentrated.

A warm application around the tummy of the baby is also known to help a great deal. Sometimes the colic pains last a very long time and parents have to take it in turn to hold the baby upright and rock it to soothe the pain. Colic seems to attack at a set time when it does. Though the timings will differ from infant to infant, usually the colic attack comes around early evening or late at night.

It is important to establish that the infant’s crying is due to colic pains. The reason for this is that there is no apparent treatment for colic and so it must be allowed to run its course. Though there are ways to comfort the infant and reduce the pain. However, the crying must not be mistaken for colic and ignored, there may be another serious underlying condition that may need immediate medical attention.

Colic pains are usually diagnosed by the baby’s behavior. If a baby crouches and cringes with the pain and cries more than three times a week at almost set times every time then the discomfort is definitely caused by colic pains. A teaspoon full of gripe water at least four or five times a day has been known to effectively comfort the infant.

Finding Free Baby Samples

admin on Jul-16-2010

I have made a listing of some of the best- no surveys to fill out, just a small sign up page, and you’ll find tons of things for your baby.
All can be found on the sites listed! Stop by today, See all the free baby products, coupons and samples you can get, you’ll be glad you did.

Does the saying “There’s no such thing as a free lunch” sound familiar? It may be true sometimes, but when you are searching for free baby samples, baby products, or baby coupons that saying is definately not true.

Trying to find things such as free diapers, formula and other free baby products is as easy as searching online.  The hard part is weeding through the sites that are “real” and the sites which make you fill out pages and pages of surveys only to find at the end you have to take part in some “offer” in order to qualify for these “free items”. And that “offer” normally costs money.

That doesn’t sound like free to me.

But, there are tons of real places online to get coupons for your baby, free samples of all the things you need like diapers, formula, baby products and more, just by filling out one quick form. Not pages of surveys.

Manufacturers-  Many offer baby clubs. Some even send out coupons or samples. A few even offer coupons for Mom’s to be to bring to the hospital to receive a free diaper bag full of goodies. So always check their websites first.

There are also quite a few well know Mom sites online that list everything you need. You can find sales listed, coupons to print, and even all the free baby stuff you can possibly find. The best part is most of these are free!

Just be careful when visiting each site and signing up. If you are unsure about anything, read the FAQ’s or terms of service.  You can usually find these at the top or bottom of the page.

Helping Baby Sleep, a Simple Plan

admin on Jul-13-2010

Do you have a baby who has trouble sleeping? Lack of sleep in babies can affect their growth, immune system and their ability to thrive, not to mention your own sanity! Helping baby sleep is possible when you know how. I have provided information below to attempt to make this a bit easier for all parents.

There may be several resons why your baby is not sleeping well. Some of the reason we hear most about are colic or abdominal discomfort, food intolerance, teething, urinary tract infection or even separation anxiety. As well as the above, other factors such as an unsuitable crib or uncomfortable or ill fitting sleepwear could be causing your baby’s restlessness. Try to find out the reason your baby isn’t sleeping well before seeking out some baby sleep help.

Many babies have problems sleeping, so you’re not alone. Most of these problems will simply go away on their own as your baby gets older. Most children will outgrow these problems as they grow and mature. However, at times, sleeping problems could become chronic and could develop into more serious sleeping disorders. So, if your child’s sleeping problems are persistent, you should immediately seek some baby sleep help from a qualified physician.

One of the first things to do is make sure sure your baby is comfortable. Establish a good.workable sleep routine, make sure baby’s crib is comfortable and make sure his romm is not too hot or cold. These are some simple things you can do to make sure your baby feels safe and comfortable. These things will go a long way in helping baby sleep peacefully. But the most important thing you should do as far as your baby’s sleeping problems are concerned is choosing the right medication.

Natural remedies are the best when it comes to treating sleeping problems in babies. Babies, needless to say, are gentle and tender. Allopathic medications, though effective, could cause a lot of side effects. Even more important though is virtually all of the chemical sleep medications are addictive. In fact, it is very risky to give these medications to your child. So, if you are looking for some good baby sleep help, go for homeopathic medications which are both powerful and safe.

There are numerous advantages to selecting herbal or homeopathic medications instead of chemical based medications.

Natural remedies are very safe. There are little to no chances of side effects at all. They are quite safe to use on a regular basis.

They do not act as a sedative. They bring on a feeling of drowsiness, relax your baby and help establish a natural, healthy sleep pattern.

In addition, some of the natural ingredients found in homeopathic blends are also useful for treating other infant problems such as irritability, anxiety and colic. They have a calming effect as well which will help your baby sleep soundly.

Some examples of ingrdients to watch for when purchasing sleep remedies for babies are Coffea c30, Matricaria and Passiflora Incarnata. These ingredients are completely natural and safe but also highly potent and effective for helping baby sleep. What more can you ask for? Choose wisely and look after your baby’s wellbeing.

Baby Beanies – The Craziest Toys!

admin on Jul-12-2010

Baby beanies have been in the market only since 1994. It was first introduced by Ty Warner. Very few people know that this baby beanie which is more commonly referred to as beanie baby was an idea of Ty Warner. By putting in more air the baby beanie was made to look like it had more life in it. It had very less stuffing within it. The normal baby toys have lots of stuffing and are very stiff. These toys which were introduced by Ty Warner had stuffing as well as were filled with little beans. Hence the name beanie baby is used. Many of the competitors had much faith that his toy would not last very long in the market. But, as you can see many of them were not right at all.

The ‘original nine’ are the first few baby beanies that were made by Ty Warner. Actually they were the first nine that were made by him. Patti the platypus, spot the dog, cubbie the bear, squealer the pig, pinchers the lobster, legs the frog, chocolate the moose, flash the dolphin and splash the killer whale are the nine baby beanies. Collectors of these toys have dubbed them as they were available only at $5.00 each and they were the first beanie babies. A short poem comes along with each of these beanie babies when they are first introduced to toddlers. This was put down on a tag which is heart shaped and is attached to the ear of the animal.

No one knows how many beanie babies are in existence today. The most popular among these baby beanies is the teddy bear. Different colors were used on the same basic pattern to create a family of them. Names were also given to each of them to go on with the tradition. There are also some beanies which have been made for commemorative purposes.

However, the official beanie babies were mostly only animals. They were most often pigs, dogs, cats or hippopotamuses. There are many a times colored brightly to make it look pleasing to the eye. Names are one thing that always comes with these toys. All of them also have their own date of births. The most important of all is the fact that it comes along with a poem each.

The craze for these beanies began in 1996. As there were many who were collecting these toys, it make Ty Warner even retire a few of his toys to hype the sales. Many of them bought these toys in wholesale. However this fad of baby beanie craze sizzled out after a while.

In spite of all this, the baby beanies are still available. However, many children do prefer soft toys as they are easy to hold as well as huggable. Beanie babies also show the kind of personality of the child who owns them.

Baby Safety – List Of Tips To Keep Your Baby Safe

admin on Jul-10-2010

1. Keep your baby clean and neat, always.

2. Cut his nails regularly, properly and carefully.

3. Remove wet diapers at once.

4. Hygiene and cleanliness of genital the area should be maintained. Always keep genital parts dry. These body parts are prone to infection, especially when wet.

5. Clean the scalp regularly and properly to prevent dermatitis and fungal infections.

6. Baby clothing should be loose enough not to restrict body movements, ease aeration and prevent skin irritation.

7. Keep your baby’ room properly ventilated and lighted. Free it from insects and dusts.

8. Your Baby’ bed should be separate but close to mothers’. A water proof bed is preferable.

9. Musical toys are good for your baby. Turn them on and let him hear it.

10. Support your baby’s head when carrying him. His neck muscles are not yet strong enough to support sudden and snappy head movements.

11. For your baby’s nutrition needs, stick to mother’s milk. Mother’s breast milk is best. No known substitute can match its nutritional qualities. When breastfeeding, make yourself and your baby comfortable. Ensure too that your nipples are always clean. Take care of your health and diet from the time you lactate.

12. In case of difficulties with breastfeeding, feed your baby with cows’ milk. Sterilize feeding bottles with boiling water and keep them dry until their next use.

13. When nursing your baby with cows’ milk, you will need to further pasteurize or boil and cool it. There are viruses like brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis that easily spread through raw milk.

14. There are babies who are allergic to some substances or materials like milk, food, dress and cosmetics. Do not use any of them for your child when you are certain they are causing allergy.

15. Use mosquito nets regularly. Mosquito bites give rise to spread of deadly viral diseases like dengue, malaria, yellow fever and filariasis. They also cause skin eruptions when triggered by allergic reactions. Mosquitos are also irksome, their buzz and bites prevent people from sleeping soundly.

16. The surroundings must be kept calm when your baby sleeps. Infants need more sleep than adults. Growth hormones work hardest during sleep.

17. Keep track of the overall physical, motor, language, emotional, social and personal development of your child. Mark the normal development milestones at any given age. Measure weight and height regularly.

18. Bowel movement is frequent among infants. Potty train your baby as early as his 10th month.

19. Clean toilet seats using antiseptic liquid before and after their use. Do not let other children share one’s potty.

20. Seek doctor’s help everytime your baby shows symptoms of ailment. The signs include convulsions, excessive crying, fever, frequent vomiting, stiffneck, bluish body discoloration, diarrhea, breathing difficulty with grunting, etc.

21. Keep a separate first aid kit and medicine box for your child. Make sure first aid kits always contain dressing materials, sterile cotton, antiseptic ointment and lotion and forceps. Maintain a separate notebook containing contact information of doctors, police, ambulance services, and the like. Information on dosage and application procedures should be written on paper and posted close to the medicine box.

22. When driving with your baby on board, fix him with a separate seat belt.

23. When the baby goes out with you, put inside his small pocket his identity card and your contact information.

24. When your baby begins to walk, maintain your close distance to him and prevent possible injuries from accidental fall or slip.

25. Apply first aid in times of emergency. Lose no time in taking your baby to the hospital. Here are cases of emergency situations and the steps you can take:

a) Your baby may choke when he swallows solid objects that block his airpipes. Have your baby lie on his abdomen with his head in a lower position. Press the back towards his chest. You may also stroke his upper back. When all of this fails, call somebody who knows, has training or experience, and have hime help your take the object out using forceps.

b) In case of accidental poisoning, try to induce the baby to vomit. This aims to take the poisonous substance out of the body. But you may not do it if the cause of poisoning is either kerosene or acid. Wash the baby’s body with water so that further contamination through the skin may be prevented. Check to ensure what caused the poisoning and rush your baby to the hospital.

c) In case of burns, quickly take the baby away from heat’s source. Dampen it with cold and clean water. Do not remove burned clothes from the body at once. Cover wounds with sanitized cotton and rush the baby to the hospital.

d) In case of wounds, use clean water to sanitize the wound. Compress the wound and raise it above the baby’s heart level to control the bleeding. Make use of a tourniquet when applicable and when the bleeding continues. Apply dressing to the wound with sterile cotton or bandage. Then seek the help of a doctor.

e) In case of drowning in a bath tub, take your baby out quickly and keep his head in a low position. Press the chest gently or apply mouth to mouth rescusitation until the baby’s airpipes are clear and the baby is able to breath freely. Take him to a nearby hospital at once.

f) In case of electric shock, cut off the source of electricity. Apply mouth to mouth breathing and cardiac massage if the baby cannot breath on his own. Rush him to the hospital.

26. Finally, keeping babies safe requires total care, love and support. It is the way to keep them happly and healthy.

One the other hand, here is a list of what should not be done to keep your baby safe.

1. Do not shake your baby. The rough movement may cause damage to his brain.

2. Keep small items away from your baby.

3. Never give sharp and pointed objects like pencil or pen to kids.

4. Be careful not to let water enter into your baby’s ear when giving him bath.

5. Do not force your baby to take food when he is coughing or crying continuously.

6. Do not overfeed your baby.

7. Keep items or substances like mosquito repellents, ink, gum, moth balls, medicines, and the like away from your baby.

8. Do not use tight clothing for your baby.

9. Do not leave your baby perched on the edge of a bed.

10. Do not give your baby to strangers. Avoid having him in close contact with other persons.

11. Keep all electrical tools or devices away from your baby. Fix his bed away from electrical wires or sockets.

12. Do not leave your baby alone in your kitchen. This place is dangerous for kids.

13. Maintain water level in your bath tub to minimum and do not attend to other things like answering a phone call when your baby is taking a bath in your bath tub.

14. Do not allow smoking or smokers inside and within the premises of the house.

15. Do not allow pets to come in close contact with your baby. Make sure pets are injected with anti-rabies compounds and their nails are trimmed properly.

16. When your baby begins to walk, do not let him climb the steps or leave him unaccompanied upstairs.

17. Avoid very strong lighting inside your house.

18. When you and your baby travel, do not give your baby any food given by co-passengers.

19. Do not let your baby crawl on the ground or soil.

20. Avoid getting close to your baby when you are sick. Prevent your baby from getting near anyone who is sick.

21. Avoid taking your baby to crowded hospital wards, market places and dusty or polluted places.

22. Keep your baby away from table lamps. Lighting attracts insects and can cause problems.

23. Medicine should not be given to children when in doubt. Expired medicines should be discarded and never to be used.

Crocheting Baby Clothes – Step-by-step Instructions To Crochet Booties and Sweaters

admin on Jul-8-2010

What is more rewarding in the world than having your baby dressed in an outfit that has been specially crocheted by yourself like booties or cute sweaters. The Art of Crochet you will find is the easiest of all crafts to learn, even for total beginners of using yarn. It takes just an evening to crochet booties and a matching sweater for baby will take a weekend.

Baby Booties

To make the baby booties just require the basic stiches of : chain stitch (cs), dec (pull up the loop of the next 2 stitches, pull the yarn over then through both of the loops on the hook), and single crochet (SC).

1 Get some worsted weight yarn, equip yourself with a size H crochet hook, and start by 5 CS (Chain Stitch). Turn and SC for 3 chains, 5 SC at the end chain, one SC in bottom loop at each of the next 3 SC stitches. The end chain is then 5 SC to turn the corner.

2 Now 5 SC, two SC in the next stitch; repeat 2 SC in the next stitch, repeat again, 5 SC, 2 SC in the next stitch, SC, 2 SC in the next stitch, SC, and 2 SC in the next stitch.

3 8 SC, 2 SC in the next stitch, 5 SC, 2 SC in the next, 8 SC, 2 SC in the next, 5 SC, and 2 SC in the next.

4 and 5 Even crochet with no increases for these next 2 rounds. Notice the sole as it begins to curve upwards. Once you have done the second round, turn.

6 SC for 5 SC, dec, 3 SC, dec, 5 SC, then turn.

7 SC for 3 SC, dec, 1 SC, dec, 3 SC, then turn.

8 SC for 1 SC, dec, dec, 1 SC, then turn.

9 and 10 SC in each SC, again continuing the rounds, dec one at either side of the top of the bootie for the next two rounds.

11, 12 and 13 Work these 3 rounds evenly, and finish by fastening off.

Repeat, to make the second bootie.

You can, if you wish, put a design on top of the baby booties such as an embroidered flower.

The booties can be crocheted in many different colours of your choice as they are so simple to make, so that you have a collection.

Sweater

It is easy to make the sweater too, which is designed ideally for fitting a newborn baby up to 6 months. The same type of yarn and hook are used.

1 Chain 45, and turn.

2 SC for the next 5 SC. Next, inc. by 2 SC, Chain 2, and in one stitch 2 SC. For the next 8 stitches SC, inc. by working SC for the next 16 stitches, inc., SC for 8 stitches, inc., and SC to the end.

3-12 Continue working the established pattern, even SC on all, inc. for each loop on Chain 2, until all 10 rows are completed.

13 This is the shaping row: Firstly, crochet the Ch 2 loop, crochet to Ch 2 loop, skip all the stitches till the next Ch 2 loop, and crochet that loop. SC each stitch of the next Ch 2 loop, skip all of the stitches till you reach the Ch 2 loop, SC the loop and then SC for each SC to the end, and turn.

Continue working until the sweater is 6 inches in measurement from the underarm. You can fasten off now.

For the right underarm, pick up and Crochet each SC. Continue working in rounds for the sleeve until it measure the same length as from the underarm as the body. Repeat to make the left sleeve. Finish by fastening off.

From the lower right hand, start by picking up the end stitch and crochet 1 SC each stitch at the front opening, around the collar, back down to the other side of the front of the sweater. The openings in the neck collar are now ready for a ribbon to be run through it, to make the necktie.

There you have it, a crochet sweater that it cozy and warm, with matching booties created by your own hands, especially for your baby. Aah!
