When did your premature infant start walking?

admin on Jan-30-2010

Hello people. Um I have twin 23 month olds that were born at 32 weeks. My son is already walking, but my daughter won’t take many steps while holding my hands and is afraid to let go to walk on her own. So I’m curious how long it took anyone else’s premature baby/infant to start walking.
Yes her doc has had all kinds of tests done. Plus my twins have physical, occupational, and speech therapy every week.

My 1st baby was born at 33 wks. If I remember right, he started to take steps at around 13 mos, but didn’t really have walking "down" until around 14 mos.
Your children were born 2 mos early so they should be around 2 mos behind the average milestones. But since yours were twins, they were probably born smaller than average, so maybe they’ll be 3-4 mos behind.
I would think that at 23 mos they should both be walking. Is your doctor concerned about your daughter not walking yet? You should talk to him about it. Some children have an imbalance within their ears that causes them not to walk – I can’t remember what it’s called, but by now I would think your doc would have her checked for that. Being 1 month away from 2 yrs old & still not walking, I would consider to be behind.

Is it okay to register for baby bedding?

admin on Jan-30-2010

I was wondering if it is okay to register for baby bedding? I didn’t know if the parents should buy that or if it’s not rude to ask other to buy that for the baby.

i did w/my first. it’s something the baby needs right?
if you feel awkward about it then just register extra crib sheets and fleece blankets and then you pick out the bed set you like and get it on your own.

i let my mother pick out the bedding for our last 2 and she got it for us. it was a special thing i let her do (plus she has great taste!). i let my grandmother pick out the baby book for all our kids! that was very meaningful for her, since my babies are her great grand babies, and not many GGmom’s are around to see all their great grand babies birth.

my mother in law always bought the first take home outfit and/or booties.

so it wasn’t that we just registered those things, we asked someone in the family if they would like to get them. it’s a way of getting the things you need, but also honoring their place in the family as the new grandmother or auntie etc. most ppl love to do it.

what is the mentalitiy of a newborn baby or a one week old baby?

admin on Jan-30-2010

what goes through the mind of a newborn baby or a one week old baby? are they aware of their own existence and the existence of other people? what are their thoughts like? I know they are usually hungry or sleepy and uncomfortable from diaper messes and all that mess…but what else goes through their brain? What exactly are they thinking about and what are their thoughts?

Awareness of your self doesn’t begin until you past 15 months. Check out Psychology Today June 2008 for more info on that.

How does laying your infant on a soft blanket cause sids?

admin on Jan-29-2010

I dont understand how laying you infant on a soft blanket or comforter could cause your baby to get SIDS..How does that possibly cause that to happen?

It’s more of the position that your child is laying opposed to the material. Children who sleep on their stomachs are more likely to inhale their exhaled carbon dioxide because they are unable to roll over or unbury their face if it is bunched up in a blanket.

Looking for music-themed baby bedding?

admin on Jan-29-2010

Where can I find baby bedding – sheets, blankets, etc – with music notes? Something simple, like black notes/clefs scattered over white sheets would be perfect. Thanks!
Please don’t offer "do it yourself" suggestions – that does not, in fact, address my question.

here ya go!

Does physical fitness affect the health of a newborn baby?

admin on Jan-29-2010

They say everything including feelings felt by the mother can affect the baby, so if the mother works out regularily, would that cause the newborn child to be born at a higher level of health than a baby born of a mother that relaxed through pregnancy.

Im not sure if the health per se would be higher for the baby. But taking part in physical activity while pregnant has many benefits. It can lower your chance of getting gestational diabetes and make labor faster and easier for both you and baby.

2. The Infant Cry of God

admin on Jan-28-2010

Milton (ENGL 220)

Milton’s early ode, “On the Morning of Christ’s Nativity” (1629) is presented and discussed. The author’s preoccupation with his standing as a novice poet and his early ambitions, as carefully outlined in the letter to Charles Diodati, are examined. The ode’s subject matter, other poets’ treatment of the Nativity, and Milton’s peculiar contributions to the micro-genre are discussed, including his curious temporal choices, the competitive attitude of his narrator, and the mingling of Christian and classical elements. The rejection of the pagan world in the poem’s final stanzas is explicated and underscored as an issue that will recur throughout the corpus. Additional reading assignments for this class meeting include “At a Vacation Exercise in the College” (1628), “On the Death of a Fair Infant” (1628), and “Elegia sexta” (1629).
